Description

Unlike the bulk of early Transformers that drew their molds from Takara’s Diaclone and Microchange toys, Omega Supreme’s original form was “Super Change Robo Mechabot-1”, produced by a company called Toybox. Toybox did not actually design Omega Supreme, instead commissioning his design, along with Sky Lynx, from Takara’s then-rival Tomy. As mentioned above, he was not released in Japan under the Transformers brand during the original 1980s run, and it seems that he was not released in the United Kingdom, either; part of the reason for the latter omission is presumably due to the fact that the Mechabot-1 mold was licensed to a UK company called Grandstand and sold as Omegatron, part of Grandstand’s Convertors toyline.

TFWiki

Released before the Transformers brand came to be, this is the original version of Omega Supreme; Mechabot-1. This figure was only available in Japan, and was also the reason that Omega Supreme was never released over there (until 2008 when the Encore line reissued him). The figure is complete and in great condition, the electronics were tested and are NOT in working order. One of the small clips has a different “sheen” to it leading us to believe that it came from one of the vintage knock off figures (see the last picture), however it is fully compatible and does not effect the transformation. The box and foam show a bit of wear from age/storage but are still in good shape, included are the instructions. PLEASE NOTE: There is a small rip in the black sleave that goes over the foam tray.

This is an original Mechabot-1 manufactured by the Toy Box toy company. There are a couple of vintage knock offs of this figure; this is not one of them. The easiest way to tell is that the box on the knock off doesn’t show the “TOY BOX” maker’s mark on the lower left hand corner. On the figure, the knock off is done in various configurations of red/blue/yellow/chrome plastic while the original figure is done in a red/gray/black color scheme. As you can see this figure also has the “Toy Box” maker’s mark on the bottom of the tank, to match the box.
