Warpath (1985)
Premiering in the second year of the Hasbro The Transformers line, Mini Vehicle Warpath transforms into a General Motors M551A1 Sheridan ARAAV tank with a rotating turret.
There is a notable paint variation on Warpath: while most releases have black-painted optics, some leave the optics unpainted yet cover his entire faceplate in black. There are also some very minor company stamping variants: all versions have “© Takara 1984 Japan” on the underside, but latter releases add “© Hasbro 1984” above it.
His cannon barrel is a fairly common breaking point, typically snapping off under the “block” part connecting the barrel to the turret.
In late 1986, he was made available as a mail-away item in the “Digital Doom on the Highway to Destruction” flier packed with most boxed Transformers toys. He cost $4 and one Robot Point.
A minor variant of Warpath was released only in Greece by El Greco under his localized name of “Akhtýpitos”, featuring slightly darker shades of plastic for both the tank’s body and treads. As with other El Greco Mini-Vehicles, his insignia rubsign is missing and his crotch sticker is slightly different.
In Japan, despite his notable presence in the cartoon, he was not available in the regular retail line, but was sold only as a mail-away item, costing 500 yen and two Robot Points.
This mold was used to make Treds.
